The mission of the Technical Literacy Task Force is to integrate continuing skills assessment and training programs into the library's workplace culture.

To achieve its mission, the task force intends to accomplish the following objectives:
  1. Review the list of "Baseline Technical Literacy Skills" delineated by the Library Education & Training Committee in December 2001, and revise the wording and placement of skills within the three categories of primary skills, secondary skills, and job-specific skills.
  2. Interview every library supervisor to seek his or her comments and priorities about the revised list of skills and to learn what training occurs presently within each unit.
  3. Compile feedback from library supervisors and write a summary report.
  4. Determine the means, sequence, and general content of technical literacy training.
  5. Assess the skills needs and preferences of all current and new library employees.
  6. Identify specific trainers for each content area and schedule a series of training events.
  7. Evaluate the effectiveness of the training and make recommendations for future initiatives.
