Dominance, Control and Manipulation: The Fine Art of Writing a Finding Aid
Susan Hamson and Kristine McGee, Project Archivists at the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library

Susan and Kristine will discuss how archivists obtain the information needed to write a finding aid for archival collections.  Attendees will learn what it means to gain intellectual control over a collection through processing, and how a finding aid conveys the level of control an archives has over its collection.

How does collection development take place in a major research library such as ours?  How do bibliographers and other professionals charged with collection development develop strategies for subject coverage, and how do they interact with Princeton's community of scholars?  This workshop introduces us to the work process and strategies of a range of professionals who will present the unique aspects of collection development within their subject areas and offer their perspectives on the challenges faced by the Library in its overall mission to maintain and expand the collections.

Choosing and Displaying Books in Library Exhibits
Presenters:  Scott Husby, Rare Books Conservator, and Vanessa Haight, Senior Conservation Technician 
Using examples from the current exhibition in the Main Gallery, Hand Bookbindings: Plain and Simple to Grand and Glorious, Scott and Vanessa will discuss the nuts and bolts of putting together a Library exhibit, including choosing the items, the logistics of building an exhibit, matting, framing, case lining, and label making.
