"The Opera Boxes, during the time of the Great Exhibition," India proof etching for and illustration in Henry Mayhew, 1851, or the Adventures of Mr And Mrs Sandboys (1851). Visitors to the Great Exhibition discovered that London was desperately short of accomodations, just like any overcrowded city during a World Fair. Cruikshank lets his imagination take a whimsical route to solving the problem by turning theater boxes into hotel rooms.
