"The Pic-Nic Orchestra," colored etching with stipple, 1802. A satire on amateur musicians alluding to the amateur theatricals presented by the aristocratic dilettantes in the Pic Nic Society. In this print Gillray captures the essence of musical humor - very little changed in our own day. Note the expression on the face of the cello player as he aims his bow playfully at the pianist.
