"Lordly Elevation,"colored aquatint, 1802. The foppish Lord Kirkcudbright has just succeeded to his father's estate. Gillray deflates the puffed-up pretensions and exposes the enormous ego of his victim in an image reminiscent of Peter Blume's portrait of Mussolini in his comic painting "Eternal City."
