"The Company of Undertakers," etching and engraving, second state, 1736/7. A mock heraldic display of quack doctors, with the bone-setter Mrs. Sarah Mapp at the top, the oculist John Taylor on her right, and on her left Dr. Joshua Ward, purveyor of a patent medicine containing a sometimes lethal dose of arsenic and antimony. Like "The Sleeping Congregation," this print presents a collection of caricatures, a humorous device often used in political cartoons.
