"Hudibras Sallying Forth," etching and engraving, second state, 1726. The second of twelve prints illustrating Samuel Butler's burlesque epic poem Hudibras. The cartoon series was a form of presentation made famous by Hogarth, starting first with the Hudibras series, followed by A Harlot's Progress in 1732 and his most famous satiric series, A Rake's Progress, in 1735.
